Ellie Reading

Ellie grew up in rural Tasmania and moved to Melbourne for university, where she completed a Bachelor of Music and Master of Speech Pathology. Having grown up with cows and crops for neighbours, five years in the ‘big city’ were enough for her, and Canberra’s mountains, waters, and running paths were hugely appealing – offering serenity, along with the essential services many families rely on. Ellie has been living in Canberra since 2017, and meeting her public-servant now-husband ensured that she’s here to stay.

Ellie’s early years as a speech pathologist were spent in a mobile private practice, supporting clients at different life stages and in a range of settings – toddlers in daycare, school-aged students in mainstream and specialist schools, and adults with complex needs at home or in supported living. While Ellie’s clinical caseload was broad, much of her intervention focused on supporting early literacy acquisition, as well as high-school clients with newly diagnosed language difficulties.

In 2021, Ellie became a mum and used this (not so relaxing!) maternity leave period to establish Bullseye Speech Pathology. Becoming a parent reshaped how Ellie thinks about support, commitment juggling and burnout, and she understands how busy and layered family life can be. Ellie brings that insight into every session, which equally drives her to involve a wide support network of family members, educators, support workers and other professionals into her holistic care model. She prioritises clarity and collaboration, so everyone has input into what’s being worked on and agrees it matters.

Ellie enjoys working part-time, making space for valuable time with her daughter during the early years. She brings creativity and flexibility to each session, and isn’t afraid to use her singing or terrible drawing abilities to add that little bit extra!

Stephanie Hearnshaw

Steph grew up in Canberra. She graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) Honours I from the University of Sydney at the end of 2014 and moved back to Canberra where she worked as a Speech Pathologist for Canberra Health Services. Steph’s clinical experience in this role included working in multi-disciplinary teams in hospital and community settings to support adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties, as well as supporting babies with feeding, and children with cleft lip and palate with communication and feeding. Steph has also supervised speech pathology students within this role which has further developed her clinical reasoning skills. Steph completed a PhD in 2024, with her research focusing on how 4- and 5-year-old children with and without speech sound disorders listen to sounds and learn words. This research fuelled Steph’s passion for wanting to work with children for their whole communication journey – from assessment to therapy and achievement of goals. For this reason, Steph joined Bullseye Speech Pathology in 2025.

Steph has three young boys and understands the day-to-day juggle of managing family time, schooling, extra-curricular activities, and appointments. Additionally, she has a commitment to her own well-being and enjoys running to-and-from destinations with her children on the bike or in the pram (providing they’re not further than a half-marathon away) and playing saxophone in a music group alongside her husband. Strong family connections drive Steph, and she recognises how strengthened communication abilities can enhance relationships for others.
